Biography

Originally from Norwich, NY, Dr. Carlie Thompson is a resident physician at Albany Family Medicine in Albany, NY. She attended college at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY, received her Master of Public Health at the University at Albany in Albany, NY, and returned to Syracuse to complete her Doctor of Medicine at Upstate Medical University. Dr. Thompson wanted to be a doctor since she was four years old. Her little brother was born with a medical condition that resulted in her family spending a lot of time in the hospital during his first year. She watched as his doctors made him better and wanted to become one herself ever since! Dr. Thompson’s interest in family medicine started from a shadowing experience before beginning medical school. She loved that family medicine physicians care for various conditions in patients of all ages and that the relationship with patients is longitudinal. As the oldest of five, she is used to being the point person for her siblings. She likes being that person as a family medicine doctor, too. Even if she can’t fix a problem, she can connect her patients to where they need to go. Dr. Thompson also loves that family medicine considers other important contributors to health status, like access to food, transportation, and employment. Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones. Her husband, their 8-month-old daughter, and two small rescue dogs are the center of her world. Dr. Thompson also finds solace in baking, particularly cookies, and finds balance through yoga. Lastly, she has a green thumb and takes pride in caring for her collection of plants.
