Biography

Dr. Monakka Afroz is a resident physician at Albany Family Medicine in Albany, NY. She attended Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY, as an undergrad, where she studied Psychology. Dr. Afroz then received her medical degree from the New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. She is originally from Bangladesh, but since she immigrated to the U.S., she has called New York home. Growing up, her family physician was a huge source of inspiration and part of the reason she decided to pursue medicine in the first place. Additionally, during her clinical years of med school, she realized she wanted to work with patients of all ages and combine her love for behavioral health, women’s health, and pediatrics into her future practice. Dr. Afroz loves that through family medicine, she can pursue her passion for social justice through medicine and help address social determinants of health. Her goal is to practice full-spectrum family medicine. When she’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Afroz enjoys a variety of hobbies. She finds solace in painting, expresses herself through dance, and is always on the lookout for new food places to try. Reading is another passion of hers, which she uses to unwind and broaden her horizons.
